A naked body of an unidentified girl has been discovered near Livingstone Hall of residence at Makerere University in Wandegeya. This yet to be identified girl was found by passersby who then called and alerted Mr. Moses Ssekatebe, the LC1 chairman of Makubira Zone where she was found. Soon after being called, Mr. Ssekatebe contacted the police who immediately came to the scene and took the body to Mulago for postmortem as investigations continue.
It is thought that this girl was first raped then killed owing that she was found completely stripped of her clothes. Just besides her body was a black kaveera that contained chips and juice which are thought to have belonged to her and that the murderers had intercepted her as she went back home after buying it from nearby shops that night. She is between the age of 22-25. The head of security at Makerere University, Mr Enoch Abeine said that he could not ascertain whether the deceased was a student at the university because police who were at the scene and residents did not find any identification document on her. On being contacted about the matter, the Makerere University Vice Chancellor, Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, said he had received the news but was still trying to inquire from his Guild if she was a student at the university.
Mr. Ssekatebe commented about the situation stating that he has on many occasions requested the authorities to provide more security in the area but all in vain and this has brought about high crime rates in his Zone. He also blamed the high numbers of youth who do drugs in the area for the increased crime.
