Graduands of Uganda’s premier university Makerere have been up and down trying to secure gowns for their graduation that has been running since Tuesday and will end on Friday. The 70th graduation lot for Friday have just received gowns today.
Surprisingly however, some of the gowns received are showing clear signs of panic and hurry on the part of the makers, in this case the Makerere University administration.
Campus Bee snoops have landed on gowns received by some graduands from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) who are scheduled to graduate on Friday, however, these graduands’ gowns miss the university logo.
The logo is a distinguishing feature on the ceremonial gowns and is they fully customize the dress code, something that had not been done in the years prior.
Makerere University was hit by a gown crisis after the contractor, Team Uniform Ltd, breached the contract to supply over 15000 gowns and only delivered 7000. According to the University Secretary Mr Yusuf Kiranda, the university will seek legal redress when the ceremony is done.
