Enough was enough for the Gulu University lecturers yesterday when they laid down their tools protesting delayed payment of their allowances.
Reports coming in indicate that the sit-down strike started on Wednesday 22nd April with the part-time lecturers laying theirs down first before the full-time category followed. They are demanding allowances from last year 2014 April to date.
“It’s difficult to understand why lecturers’ allowances have not been remitted yet the students pay tuition to the school administration on time,” one lecturer commented.
Various stakeholders affiliated to the university have joined the fight to echo out this plight.
Lapyem Emmanuel, a student, commented in a post that an organisation that doesn’t value its human resource is a no organisation.
The university guild government led by his Excellency Andrew Ogwetta Otto, yesterday released an official statement reacting to this current absurd situation at their institution.
“Students should not be denied education. Saturday 9:00AM we shall express ourselves rightfully and ‘rightly’ as Students.” the statement read.
