Gulu University Academic Registrar, Dr. Jerry Bagaya has informed students about a new measure to handle pending academic issues that have prolonged completion.
At its 52nd meeting held on June 15, 2022, the University Council upheld the recommendation of the University Senate to grant amnesty to students admitted to programmes at Gulu University from 2006/2007 to 2018/2019 Academic Years but failed to complete their studies on time.
Eligibility
The amnesty will apply to both undergraduate and graduate students whose registration status elapsed and have not completed studies but wish to complete their studies, under the following conditions:
- The student must have been registered within the period 2006/2007 to 2018/2019.
- The student must not have accumulated Cumulative Grade Point Averages (CGPAs) less than 2.00 on three consecutive instances.
- The student must not have failed any course three times.
- Students under the following programmes that were phased out should not apply: Certificate in Pharmaceutical and Health Supplies Management, Certificate in Secretarial and Information Management, Diploma in Pharmacy, Diploma in Development Studies, Diploma in Secretarial and Information Management, Bachelor of Science Education (Technological Education) and Postgraduate Diploma in Conflict Transformation Studies.
- The students retaking course units must be ready to attend lectures and do courseworks as a prerequisite to sit for final examinations.
- Successful applicants will resume studies in the 2023/2024 Academic Year.
Financial Implication
1. Students who have overstayed on a programme for failure to pay tuition and functional fees, shall pay these fees based on the fees structure of the academic year of reinstatement.
2. Students who have exhausted the mandatory years of study and have course unit(s) to retake shall pay reinstatement fees.
3. Students who have exhausted the mandatory years of study but only have incomplete research shall pay all functional fees and 25% of tuition fees per semester.
Application Procedure
- Eligible students should write to the Academic Registrar through the Head of Department and Faculty Dean/ Institute Director.
- Attach copies of admission letter, identity card, testimonial, registration cards, examination cards and fees payment slips.
- Submit your application to the Assistant Registrar I (Examinations), Examinations Division, Department of Academic Registrar, Gulu University Main Campus, Gulu City, not later than May 31, 2023.
- Eligible students who will not have applied by May 31, 2023 will be automatically discontinued for overstaying on the programme.
