Abraham Timothy Ikoona a third-year student of Medicine and Surgery at the Ankole based Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) passed away in the evening of 3rd September at Mbarara regional referral hospital where he was rushed by his roommates after having difficulties in breathing and feeling a lot of pain.
The late Ikoona had been a sickler but most of his course mates did not know about his status because he had been strong right from his first year!
During the requiem mass that was held in university pharmacology lecture theatre (PLT) on Tuesday 4th September 2019 where lecturers and students paid their last respects to Ikoona, his father, a one Eng.Moses revealed that the late wanted to become a doctor right from his primary education because he wanted to help his fellow sicklers.
He thanked God for having enabled Ikoona in achieving one his dreams of joining the medical school though he did not complete it. Eng. Moses also advised students to test for sickle cell before they start engaging in marriage and also to continue praying to the almighty God.
According to his mother, Ikoona gained his secondary education at St Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK) before he joined MUST ON 14th August 2017 to trail a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery on government sponsorship.
He is going to be missed by his lecturers, course mates and the entire MUST community because of his intelligence, strength and love towards studying. Ikoona is going to be laid to rest today 6th September 2019 in Jinja.
