The family of the late Kairu Patricia, a newly enrolled student at Kampala International University (KIU), has shared a deeply painful account of the final moments before laying her to rest, describing confusion, anguish and unanswered questions surrounding her death.
Patricia, who had been missing for 10 days before her body was discovered, was laid to rest in Buyende District on Wednesday amid grief and growing calls for justice.
In a detailed emotional post, her friend Makana Kennedy Ndyamuhaki (@Makana_Kennedy) revealed the distress the family endured at Mulago National Referral Hospital after Patricia’s body was recovered.
“The circumstances surrounding her death have left us devastated. We could not even properly see her after her body was recovered from Mulago. By the time we got there, mortuary attendants had already buried her, forcing us to exhume her. Her face was unrecognisable,” he wrote.
Ndyamuhaki said the family was forced to exhume the body in order to properly identify Patricia before burial, a process he described as traumatic and deeply painful.
In his post, Ndyamuhaki confirmed that Patricia was finally laid to rest, but said the burial was overshadowed by grief and uncertainty over the circumstances of her death.
“Yesterday, we laid Patricia to rest amid deep pain, grief and so many unanswered questions. Her life was cruelly taken from her by unknown assailants,” he said.
Patricia had reportedly gone missing after leaving her hostel in Kansanga, sparking a 10-day search by family and friends before her body was later discovered in Nabbingo.
Her body had reportedly spent several days at Mulago mortuary before the family was informed.
Ndyamuhaki has since renewed calls for a thorough investigation into Patricia’s death, urging security agencies to intervene and provide answers.
“I reach out to you once again, pleading for your attention and support in ensuring that Patricia gets the justice she deserves,” he said, tagging senior police officials including @Tom_Magambo, @Damulira_Chris, and @PoliceUg.
“Her family deserves answers. Patricia deserves justice.”
While social media reports have circulated alleging that Patricia may have been raped, killed and dumped in an unfinished building in Nabbingo’s Bataka Lane, authorities have not confirmed these claims.
The Uganda Police Force has not yet issued a detailed public statement on the circumstances surrounding her death.
Patricia’s disappearance from Kansanga, her movement to Nabbingo, and the events leading to her death remain unclear as investigations continue.
