The Uganda Christian University(UCU)’s newly elected Guild president Agira Birungi celebrates her birthday today.
This was revealed via the UCU 26th Guild Government twitter(formerly x) handle.
Agira Birungi was declared Uganda Christian University’s (UCU)’ 26th Guild President on 15th November ,2023 . She secured her win with a narrow margin, garnering a total of 1,131 votes, which accounted for 53% of the total votes cast. Birungi’s competitor, Emmanuel Gerald Abura fell short with 1,026 (47% of votes).
As soon as she joined the university, Agira said she went on a campaign to promote herself, by actively participating in university activities, including outreach programs organized by the university administration and student leaders.
It is such enthusiasm that earned Agira leadership positions during her earlier years of study. At Mbarara Junior School, where Agira spent all her seven years of primary education, she was a student leader in charge of religious affairs. At Bweranyangi Girls School, a prominent girls-only school in western Uganda, where Agira spent all the six years of secondary education, she was also one of the student leaders. she revealed to a local campus news website
While at UCU, as an enthusiast of debates, she engaged in moots within the law school. She also was an advocate for students’ rights. Agira said whenever there was something not right, she would approach the Dean of the School of Law, to represent the concerns of her fellow students.
