Ivan Kyeyune, a reporter attached to Nation Media’s NTV recently survived death by a whisker when he was attacked by unknown thugs near Bavana Hostel on his way home. The incident happened on Saturday night when the NTV scribe was heading to his crib, located in Namugongo.
Kyeyune, who is commonly known for voicing NTV’s weekly comic news highlights dubbed “Zungulu” was attacked by two thugs who connived with the boda boda rider who was taking him home. According to Kyeyune, one of the thugs jumped off the second motorcycle before attempting to end his life.
Apparently, Kyeyune had already suspected the thugs and he immediately engaged in a one on one combat shortly after he was cut with a weapon he did not clearly understand.
“When we reached the Kiwatule-Kyambogo junction, the boda guy suddenly changed the route and took the Kyambogo side. I immediately asked him why he decided to change the route yet there is no traffic jam. He(boda rider) said that there is a shortcut to Nalya.” Kyeyune narrates.
“In a few seconds, the second motorcycle carrying two people arrived. One man jumped off the bike and hit me with something I couldn’t identify.” Kyeyune recalls before adding that “I quickly engaged him and refused to let him go until we both fell down.”
The NTV reporter added that he quickly got up and knocked on the nearby gate to ask for help. Kyeyune also explains that they refused to open for him before advising him to knock on the next black gate. The three thugs quickly took off after hearing people and dogs barking.
The heavily bleeding journalist followed a van that was reportedly carrying Kyambogo students and entered Bavana Hostel premises.
“One of the men I found inside at first refused to help me but he later mobilized with others to take me to Hospital.” Kyeyune recalls.
