Former President of the Makerere Law Society (MLS) Mr. Edwin Mugumya, a city lawyer with Katende, Ssempebwa and Co. Adcocates was elected the District Youth Councillor to represent the young people of Sheema District.
Mr. Mugumya, who treated us to a ballistic proposal and wedding in the past year when he formally legalised his nocturnal games, beat 05 other contestants to claim the seat.
“Early last year, I declared my bid to serve my people of Sheema as their District Youth Councilor. I sold the idea to a number of colleagues who did not hesitate to buy the idea. We immediately embarked on aggressive mobilization, strategizing and campaigning under the theme, “Leaving No Youth Behind.” Our message centered on income generation, skills development, production, business and innovation support etc.
On the 27th Jan 2021, I was declared by the EC as the winner in the race for the above position having polled the highest number of votes.” Mugumya announced on his Facebook page.
Mugumya registered 221 votes out of the 498 votes cast with his closest challenger Bainomugisha Benison polling 207 votes.
He thanked the people of Sheema District, especially youths in the district for supporting him and pledged to ably represent them.
“I look forward to working with my electorate and all the stakeholders in the district and beyond to achieve our agenda of leaving no youth behind.
As said, our focus in the tenure of 2021-26 shall be; income generation, skilling the youths, boasting production, business and innovation support among others.” He said.
