A team of students from ISBAT University, who participated in a three-month competition in Artificial Intelligence have scooped a prize of shs11,100,000 in this year’s edition of TotalEnergies solutions challenge.
The ISBAT university team that participated in the competition named “Revolution Hackathon Uganda” comprised of Martin Kenyi, Eric Mathew Luse, Joshua Bwengye and Jonathan Lokpatchu who are pursuing a Bachelors Degree of Science in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Their innovation aimed at optimizing and finding the best charging points in Kampala, courtesy of TotalEnergies.
“We used artificial intelligence to help us optimize and find the best locations Total can set up charging points. Artificial intelligence uses a genetic automatic algorithm that is based on the theory of natural selection and generates random points across all major roads in Kampala. We pass it in constraints because we wanted points that are next to power line distribution and fuel stations,” a member of the ISBAT University team, Kenyi, said.
The ISBAT University team came second to TBKN team which garnered shs18,500,000 after emerging best with an innovation that uses AI to identify optimal locations for the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
Third in place were Data, Knight and Shalom team who received shs3,700,000 each.
The competition which saw over 400 applications submitted, aimed at bringing to life innovative ideas drawing from the extensive data on Kampala City’s road networks, electricity infrastructure and traffic patterns.
Congratulations to the winners.
