A group of students from the Kansanga based international University of East Africa have today protested over the cancellation of their scholarship after one year of study which according to them is a very inopportune time.
The students have asserted that they were admitted on this scholarship which they claim is funded by a one Col (rtd) Fred Mwesigye last year. On that note, they were expecting to complete their various courses on this scheme, however to their shock the administration of the university has discontinued them and cancelled the scholarship and this the students especially the beneficiaries have described as illegal.
The students who were holding placards, admission letters at their campus gate were calling on for government intervention in this matter.
However, a letter these students received from the university claimed the university was not to blame but the funder of the project Col. Fred Mwesigye for breach of contract.
When contacted Col (rtd) Fred Mwesigye disowned the protesting students saying “I’m responsible for only ten students from Nyabushozi district.”
He further said among the protesting students there’s non from Nyabushozi district which is a clear signal that some people forged his signature and took on all these actions.
Col. Fred mwesigye said he’s working together with the university and security to look out for the people who did this claiming to be his agents .
The university resident director, Mr Hassan Alwi challenged the students to avail their documents for verification. He said the students are given scholarships at different offers which they have to read and understand.
“Some of those documents are a forgery. We shall need to verify them,” Mr Alwi said.
Campus bee will keep you posted.
