A Muslim cleric, Mr Ismail Ddungu has asked officials of 2019/2020 Islamic University Students’ Union (IUSU) Government to be exemplary when discharging duties. The scholar made a call on Monday when he interacted with the students representatives at IUIU Main Campus in Mbale Municipality.
Addressing the students, Ddungu said IUSU officials are the torch of the students and they need to always act and behave responsibly.
“You are leaders. Leaders are supposed to be role models under whatever circumstance. You are not supposed to forget , wrong or doubt when making decisions. Students expect you to be exact and knowledgeable when leading them.” Ddungu said.
He told the leaders to be at the forefront of making sure that the university is clean always. “Today, I was passing near Abu Mayanja hall and I was surprised to see how the place was looking. As leaders, it is your responsibility to make sure that the institution is clean always.” He added.
According to the former Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and Ministry of Education employee, IUSU officials are supposed to know the history of the university to lead the students well.
“You must know IUIU because you can’t serve an institution that you don’t know. You need to know when it started, why it started and how it started. You must know its current status and where it is going. This University had, has and it will have enemies. You must know them.” He said.
Ddungu urged the students to consult before making decisions. “A leader is responsible for making decisions but it should be after consulting knowledgeable people because students believe in you.” He said.
The meeting was attended by all guild officials of Islamic University Students’ Union. The University coordinator , Dr Sulaiti Kabali chaired the meeting.
