Kenya’s fourth president, Uhuru Kenyatta graced the 2025 annual guild summit held at Makerere University on Thursday, April 24th, 2025.
Kenyatta encouraged leaders to lead with integrity and to participate in electoral processes. He said youth must embrace their civic right to choose governments that can address their concerns.
Speaking at the summit, Makerere University’s guild president Ssentamu Churchill James reminded fellow leaders that leadership is not about titles but the change they create while in office.
“As we gather here, we are reminded that leadership is not about the titles we hold, but the change we create,” he said.
Adding; “To my fellow guild presidents and student leaders: let this summit not be the end of a conversation but the beginning of a movement. Let us return to our campuses with renewed purpose, to advocate, to mobilize, and to serve with integrity”.

Ssentamu urged fellow leaders to build bridges across borders, share ideas, and stand united in diversity because ‘the future of East Africa is not written by one nation alone, but by the unity of many’.
Other dignitaries that graced the summit included Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister emeritus Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda, Makerere University’s V.C Prof. Nawangwe, and Electoral Commission chairman Justice Simon Byabakama.
