The death of Tooro’s King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV has opened a new chapter for the kingdom, with the late monarch leaving behind a son who is set to inherit the Tooro Crown.
Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, while announcing the death of the 34-year-old monarch, assured the people of Tooro that the continuity of the royal institution is secure.
According to Akiiki, King Oyo left behind a Prince who is his heir, although the identity of the young royal will only be formally revealed at an appropriate time in accordance with Tooro customs and traditions.

The announcement has brought some reassurance to the Batooro, who were left mourning the death of a King who had occupied the throne for nearly 31 years.
Son to continue the royal bloodline
The identity of King Oyo’s son remains closely guarded, with the Kingdom yet to disclose his name, age or other details.
Authorities have instead indicated that the Prince’s identity and the succession process will be handled according to established Tooro royal traditions and customs.
This means that, although King Oyo has died, the Babiito royal lineage continues through his son.
The announcement also effectively puts succession at the centre of attention as the Kingdom begins mourning its late monarch.
Royal family summoned
The succession question comes as the Tooro Royal Family prepares for a crucial meeting following the King’s death.
Tooro Chief Prince Charles Kamurasi has summoned members of the Royal Family, including princes and princesses, to an emergency meeting at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal on Friday, August 28.
The meeting is expected to take place as the Kingdom begins the process of mourning and preparing for the transition following King Oyo’s death.
King Oyo’s remarkable reign
King Oyo ascended the Tooro throne on September 12, 1995, following the death of his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III.
He was only three years old at the time, making him the world’s youngest reigning monarch.
He would eventually assume full operational control of the Kingdom as an adult and remained Omukama until his death on August 27, 2026, aged 34.
His death therefore marks the end of an extraordinary royal journey that began in childhood.
Who will be the next Omukama?
For now, the identity of the Prince remains unknown to the public.
The Kingdom has made it clear, however, that the Crown will continue and that King Oyo’s son is the heir.
The forthcoming unveiling of the Prince will therefore be closely watched across Tooro and Uganda as the Kingdom prepares to honour its fallen King and begin a new chapter under the next generation of the royal family.
