News reaching our snoops’ desk is that unrest and tension is tearing the Kampala International University (KIU) western campus guild house apart. It has been just 3 months since thousands of KIU students From the western campus put their chosen candidates into the guild union to serve and represent their opinions. However, there has been a slow start in terms of service delivery .
After a thorough investigation, it has been found out that the guild council is apparently divided – a division caused by a few individuals who have decided to use the office to satisfy their own personal gains other than delivering as expected to the people who put them into power. We discovered that the Guild Representative Councillors (GRCs) haven’t received a single penny of the three months’ salary they ought to get for the months of June up to August a thing that has sent the house into a state of confusion.
Further investigation reveals that actually the GRCs’ salary for these 3 months has found its way into the pockets of a few individuals who decided to use their authority and divert the money to satisfy their personal needs. To make matters worse, when tasked to make accountability these few individuals decided to make a fool of the rest of the guild council when they proposed ghost projects onto which they had spent the money. Some of these ghost projects included proposed trips to Kyankwanzi and timeless missions! This pissed off the already angered GRCs who immediately organized a vote of no confidence to banish the Minister in charge of Finance and relieve him of his duties.
Speaking to one of the GRCs who preferred anonymity, GRCs could tolerate their money not coming in time if there was a genuine reason because to them delivering to those who put them in power is the first priority, but the mere fact that the top guys decided to divert the money to satisfy their needs and start acting arrogant when asked about the issue is what has triggered them and exacerbated the issue.
