Last week was marred by unfortunate news of irregularities regarding students’ marks at Kyambogo and Makerere universities.
This was according to a report published by Daily Monitor of Thursday, 26th and Friday, 27th, October 2023, under the headlines ‘Marks for sale at universities and Universities face probe over the sale of marks’, respectively.
Management at Kyambogo has since been tight-lipped until today when the university formally commented on the issue through a press statement.
In the statement, the university retaliated stating that it has policies and guidelines regulating the management, processing and release of examination results.
“The university Senate established an Examination Malpractice Committee that handles cases of examination malpractice by students and an Appointment Board Disciplinary Committee that handles staff misconduct.”
Kyambogo University went on to confirm that management “has since taken an interest in this matter, and a committee has been instituted to investigate the allegations.”
The university has also warned that any staff or student found guilty of engaging in any form of examination malpractice shall be held accountable.
More so, anyone with information regarding this malpractice has been encouraged to provide information in confidence to the Academic Registrar, Dr. Annie Begumisa who can be reached on 0772410213 or arkyu@kyu.ac.ug.
“Please note that the information will be treated with the highest confidence level, and the informant will be protected per the Kyambogo University Whistleblowers protection rules,” the university pledged.
Related to the above, the university has acknowledged reports from some sections of the media indicating that a member of staff has been involved in unfortunate sex scandals.
