The office of Kyambogo University Electoral Commission has finally released dates when this year’s guild elections will be held. According to a statement issued by the university’s electoral body, elections for guild president, GRCs and hall chairpersons will be held on 11th March 2021.
The statement further adds that the election of hall executives will be held on the next day, 12th March.
Following the outbreak of COVID-19, all Kyambogo aspiring leaders will hold their campaigns scientifically through social media and television but voting will be conducted physically by secret ballot.
The electoral commission was tasked by the Kyambogo University Council Chairperson Dr. Marry Gorreti Nakabugo to organize and conduct the elections within the first three weeks of on campus lectures which are expected to kick off on 1st March.
“She directed that, “Given that, the university will reopen for continuing students on 1st March 2021, it would be prudent that any remaining electoral activity for electing guild leaders is conducted and completed within the first three weeks when students are having lectures and the exercise shouldn’t cross over to the examination period.” EC’s statement reads in part.
Kyambogo University first year students will not be able to vote for their leaders following the university’s communication that they should report on campus on 10th April.
It should be recalled that Kyambogo had already kicked off their electoral activities when President Museveni ordered the closure of all universities in a bid to slow the spread of COVID-19.
