Kyambogo University is mourning the passing of Mr. Bumba Juma, a first-year, second-semester student in the Bachelor of Procurement and Logistics Management programme, attached to Nanziri Hall.
In a death announcement dated July 6, 2026 and addressed to Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka, Dean of Students Bridget Mugume confirmed that Mr. Bumba Juma — registration number 25/U/PLE/08178/PE — passed away this morning at Kiruddu Hospital, where he had been admitted after being burnt in his rental in Bweyogerere town.
The circumstances of how the fire occurred have not been detailed in the official communication.
Mr. Bumba Juma will be laid to rest on Saturday, June 7, 2026 at Kamonkoli Kerene Village, Budaka District.
The university has covered expenses for embalming, transportation, and burial in accordance with its established Student Burial Policy.
However, in a notable departure from the usual practice of sending a student delegation to attend burials, the university confirmed it will not be sending a delegation to Budaka — citing the Ebola Prevention guidelines currently issued by the Ministry of Health.
“In accordance with the Ebola Prevention guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, the University will not send a delegation to attend the burial,” the letter states.
To the family of Bumba Juma in Budaka District — the Kyambogo University community stands with you from a distance, in prayer and in grief.
