Word reaching us indicates that the Electoral Commission (EC) has picked Kyambogo University cricket grounds as the venue for this year’s presidential nominations slated to take place on November 2nd and 3rd as the country gears up for the 2021 general elections.
It should be recalled that EC held the previous nominations at Namboole Stadium. According to Paul Bukenya, the acting EC spokesperson, the electoral body has decided to use Kyambogo cricket grounds because Namboole is currently booked for treatment of COVID-19 patients.
Kyambogo University has used the COVID-19 break to renovate their structures, set up new buildings, construct roads, and now the university is on its journey to becoming the leading university both infrastructure and academic-wise.
While speaking about the highly anticipated elections, Bukenya disclosed that they (EC) have deployed a 35-member committee dubbed the national organising committee (NOC) which will be chaired by Justice Simon Byabakama.
“The committee is tasked with ensuring the smooth organisation and conduct of presidential nominations,” Bukenya said.
While speaking to the press on Tuesday this week, Bukenya revealed that 86 people had expressed interest in running for president.
“So far, three presidential aspirants have returned their forms to support their nomination, including President Yoweri Museveni of the National Resistance Movement, who has submitted signatures from his supporters,” Bukenya said.
