Early this semester, a new sports policy was introduced at KYU. According to professor Okedi John, this policy was formulated to guide the management, accessibility and performance of sports activities at the university.
The GRC house however didn’t warmly welcome the idea since it attracts an extra payment of UGX 25,000 a financial burden that’s shifted to students. The other misunderstanding is that the guild president Lugalavu Lawrence did not use the right full procedures where he was supposed to present the issue to the GRC house before signing it to be passed making it null and void.
Speaking to one of the frustrated members of the GRC house who preferred anonymity, he revealed to Campus Bee that the university management and a few top Guild council officials are having ulterior motives in this and as the GRC’s, they are not contented with the development since they are answerable to the students after all.
“what do I tell the students when they ask me why this policy was brought up and why it called for such a hiked fee?” he furiously said
What is instigating the GRC’s to reject the policy further more is that the extra payment the policy comes with is too much compared to what the last Guild house had proposed which was UGX 5000.
The other lingering notion in the GRCs’ minds is the fact this money will be redirected to the Central account same as the Guild Fee and the Development fee. The Guild house on the contrary thinks it should be paid separately to avoid the repetition of KYU history where there’s always been lack of accountability.
The GRC’s are having another meeting today at 4 to further investigate on this issue as well as edit the policy if possible.
Campus bee will keep you posted about the issues debated from the meeting.
