The parliamentary select committee investigating school land grabbing in Kampala, has quizzed Kyambogo university management over negligence in managing the university land.
The matter arouse from the fact that the university has so far lost 34.7 acres of land, some of which have been deliberately given to ministry of education.
While appearing before this committee, the university vice-chancellor Prof Katunguka Rwakashaya said that the university council agreed to give some land to Ministry of Education on free hold to construct its headquarters.
“The land from Kyambogo University was given to the Ministry of Education around 2003/2008,” Prof Katunguka said.
This raised attention of Members of Parliament, questioning why university land can be given to ministry under no arrangement.
However the university vice-councilor’s Katunguka insisted that the giveaway was done on cordial relationship.
“There was a PS, Francis Ruhanga who received a title and passed on to the Uganda Land Commission to curve off the land for the ministry of Education only. That was the instruction given,” Prof. Katunguka revealed.
“I think there was a connivance with some members in the land commission to curve off some extra piece of land for people we don’t understand,” Prof Katunguka further revealed.
