Kyambogo University is mourning the death of Cherop Joshua, a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities.
Joshua, who was attached to Kulubya Hall, died on Friday, August 21, 2026, according to a death announcement from the university’s Office of the Dean of Students.
A communication addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eli Katunguka, stated that Joshua was found dead in a hostel room. Police intervened and his body was taken to the City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
The university communication states that the death was determined to be suicide.
Joshua was registered under registration number 24/U/HS/D/17196/GV.
Family notified
According to the university, Joshua’s family has been contacted and will receive support in accordance with Kyambogo University’s students’ burial policy.
The deceased hailed from Rotin Village, Nyimei Parish, Kwanyi Sub-County, Kween District.
The university said a delegation of students from his faculty, together with his friends, would attend his send-off.
The death has left the Kyambogo University community mourning the loss of a student who was still pursuing his undergraduate studies.
The university has not provided further details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
