The Dean of Students Kyambogo University, Ms Mildred Tibananuka announced a temporary ban on bags and backpacks to lecture rooms. This comes as a precautionary measure to mitigate the risk of harboring explosives that recently trended in the country.
At a Kyambogo University security meeting held on Friday 29 October, 2021, it was observed that terrorism was at a growing rate in the country and the main media for carrying explosives were bags and backpacks.
“In an effort to prevent terrorism in Kyambogo University. it was agreed that students should not be allowed to carry bags and backpacks to lecture rooms,” a memo read.
The temporary ban therefore called for rudimentary solutions like students carrying study material in their hands like toddlers.
“The purpose of this communication therefore, is to inform you that students shall not be allowed to carry bags into lecture rooms. Students are advised to carry their books in the hands,” the Dean noted.
Social media is already wondering about the university’s decision as many students have to move with laptops and other fragile equipment.
