Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Prof Eli Katunguka has broken the silence regarding the resumption of lectures. In a letter dated 29th January 2021, Katunguka informed students that the university will adhere to a directive from National Council for Higher Education to remain closed for another three months.
Kyambogo University had set 1st February 2021 as their opening date for physical lectures but according to Katunguka’s letter, it will not be possible. Kyambogo continuing students were also expected to sit for their end of semester II exams from 15th to 28thFebruary 2021 but all this has been put on hold.
“As one of Higher Education Institutions, Kyambogo University will adhere to the President’s directive and wait for further guidance. The university will therefore not open for physical lectures on Monday 1st February 2021 as previously announced.” Katunguka’s letter reads in part.
During his last press conference, Katnguka told journalists that Kyambogo will to rush to graduate finalists before fully completing internship or teaching practice (for Bachelor of Education students). The university has not yet set graduation dates amid pressure from students who want to kick off job hunting.
Katunguka’s communication has come few days after a section of Kyambogo students penned a letter to him demanding for answers regarding reopening. The students also advised Katunguka to review their online learning , explaining that it has not met their education objectives.
