The name Shabil Ojambo Wabwire is not new for any University student that has closely followed and engaged in both national and international University debates. Endowed with enormous talent and expertise, this gentleman has been accorded stewardship of the Kyambogo University Electoral Commission by the Vice President Kyasimire Penpal.
This appointment comes after the initially appointed and approved electoral commission was disbanded over a corruption scam whereby over Shs. 2,500,000 was solicited by the commissioners from intending polling assistants in order to get them recruited into the positions.
During the vetting excercise in a Guild Council meeting on Wednesday evening, Shabil pledged to exercise his duties equitably and with high integrity, considering the smooth running of the electoral process first before anything else.
“I shall work hand in hand with the other commissioners the ensure that this election is successful. I have the experience garnered from the Kyambogo University Debating Society and I happened to even organise one of the biggest debating championships in Uganda, the East African Debating Championship,” Shabil convinced th house.
Shabil was also questioned on how he would ensure that bribery does not make most of the recruitment process of the Polling Assistants. He suggested that an online recruitment process would be used so as to lessen contact between the commissioners and the prospective polling assistants.
