Following the announcement by the Law Development Centre (LDC) to open applications of the Bar Course for the academic year 2020/2021, it has also released a calendar for the said academic year. The calendar release is dated 14th August 2020.
According to the calendar, the course is scheduled to start on the 5th of October 2020 with the reporting and the induction of the advocates-to-be lawyers.
The first term will run from the 5th October 2020 until the 18th December 2020 upon which they will go for a short Christmas recess, the second term from the 4th January 2021 to April 16th 2021 and the third term will start on the 26th April 2021 until 9th of July 2021 when the term ends. The final term which is also the term when the lawyers will be doing clerkship will start on the 12th July and run until the 29th of October 2021.
The lawyers are expected to submit research proposals for a research paper during the first term, with the deadline for submission on the 18th day of December 2020. Oral examinations for category A subjects will be conducted in the second term from the 22nd March 2021 to the 9th April 2021, while the written examinations for the Category B subjects will be conducted between the 12th April to 16th April 2021, as the term will be ending.
Examinations for category C and D subjects will be conducted between the 28th June to 2nd July 2021 and the final examinations for category A subjects will be conducted between the 5th July and 9th July 2021, just as that term ends. There will be a marking retreat between the 24th July and 14th August 2021.
In the same course outline authored by Mrs Annette Karungi Mutabingwa, the head, Department of Post Graduate Legal Studies and Legal Aid, LDC has also released the names of staff members that will presumably be taking the lawyers/students through the entire course Presumably because the names appear under a title for the currently running academic year 2019/2020, possibility a clerical error. The names however are of the Kampala and Mbarara Campus. It is still uncertain why the names for the newly opened Lira Campus are not listed or if the teaching and supporting staff are actually available.
