LDC Seeks to Reinstate Pre-entry Exams

The Director of Law Development Center-LDC Frank Othembi has appealed to Parliament to allow the center set a bar standard for law pursuant students in spite of the Parliamentary directive of 2019 suspending their pre-entry examinations.

Parliament in 2019 passed a resolution stopping LDC from setting and charging new entrants in the center pre-entry exams on the basis that many students failed and there was no valve for money.

However, on Tuesday when Othembi was appearing before the parliamentary Public Accounts Committee Central chaired by Frederick Angur, said that though the center suspended the pre-entry exams, it came with challenges that have exerted more pressure on the few existing infrastructure due to the high numbers of applying law students.

Othembi also expressed concern on the increasing quality of admitted law students at LDC after having abolished the pre-entry exams which has also increased the number of applicants in all compasses.

He further informed the committee that now the center has also opted to open up new branches with the newest being Lira and Mbale compass expected to open in two years from now and in addition the new 14 licensed universities to teach law.
