Law Development Centre (LDC) has commenced the process of replacing vacant positions, previously occupied by top officials that were sacked last month.
At a special held on meeting on 20th December, 2022, Management Committee considered a report of the Appointments Sub-Committee in respect of various disciplinary proceedings and made decisions regarding the Academic Registrar’s Department.
The decisions included relieving the Academic Registrar – Dr. Everest Turyahikayo, Assistant Academic Registrars – Ms. Mary Nakigozi and Dr. Leonard Ssozi of their duties.
Allegedly, the trio was pinned for misuse of office with accusations of sexual harassment, tampering with students’ marks and several other illicit acts.
Since then, management has taken measures to fill the vacuum left by the terminated officers.
It is no surprise that today, January 5, LDC has invited applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill some of the vacant positions.
New wine in old bottles?
Like many Higher Institutions of Learning in the country, the troubles that culminated into the dismissal of LDC’s Academic Registrar are often recurring.
With all the sensitization and campaigns against such misconduct in these influential positions, it is quite absurd that the vices have become perpetual regardless of who is in that office.
Perhaps it’s time for a new chapter at LDC with a new team coming in with an exquisite strategy that will eliminate the irregularities.
