In a shocking revelation, a respected lecturer at Institute of Survey and Land Management (ISLM) located in Entebbe has been exposed for allegedly demanding a ‘sensual favor’ from a female student in exchange for favorable marks.
The scandal has raised concern and sent shockwaves through the academic community at the institution.
In a leaked phone conversation exclusively obtained by Campus Bee, the alleged lecturer who has been identified as Bogere Edrisa (for Land Management and Evaluation course) attempted to persuade the female student into one his tricks.
According to the leaked phone recording, this female student reached out to the lecturer seeking a way forward after her marks were unsatisfactory following their release.
“Sir, what can I do because even the course work I have zero,” the student is heard expressing her agony to the lecturer.
“… help me and I do a test maybe – the student added further in the conversation, which was pointing to a meet-up between the two, to have a resolution on how her marks could be improved.
“…there’s no time, those marks are needed, I really want to help you,” the lecturer responded citing his interest in meeting the lady personally.
Using his position of authority, the lecturer’s expression on the call sought a way to meet this student, who had aforementioned that she stays in Najjanankumbi – a residential area. His condition was that she is ‘alone’ at the time of the meet-up.
“I want to talk to you when you’re alone, when you don’t have friends around you” before he added; “can you make me happy you girl?”
At the conclusion of the call, a mutual understanding was arrived at, on when and where the two would meet.
“I will call you on those days when am coming and then I’ll see when I’ll go with you to Entebbe,” the lecturer said.
An inside source at the ISLM, who talked to Campus Bee on condition of anonymity revealed that the case was allegedly covered up when it was raised to administration.
“The Institution had to just cool the thing and told the lecturer not to offer the lady a retake. But behind this, more girls were suffering.”
What the Institute’s Administration Says
In a telephone interview with Campus Bee, the Institute’s Principle Mr Benard Oguro said that he had not received the harassment case in his office citing that cases of that kind were recorded and resolved long time ago.
“…It was long time and we sorted it out, since then I’ve never received again.” He said.
On what measures the Institute had put in place to combat the sexual harassment vices, Mr Oguro had this to say:
“In our assemblies, we give the students especially the females a guide that in case they get such harassments, use our instructions to bring it to the attention of the administrators. If the admin fails to work it out, we’ve encouraged the students to bring it to the principle. After that, I can use my authority to engage with the disciplinary committee and we see how we can handle the case”
