A significant number of students who had applied for various academic programmes at Uganda’s premier institution – Makerere University; have expressed dissatisfaction with the programmes they were given, and even worse, some completely missed out on the lists.
Makerere University has urged the affected students to appeal to the Academic Registrar’s office located at the Senate building.
The institution, however, emphasizes that appealing phase applies to only those who had errors in their applications.
A letter from the Minister of Academic affairs at Makerere – Patience Nambaziira indicates details on how to appeal to the AR office.
Some applicants were also concerned as to why the number of people admitted to various programmes reduced by a big margin as compared to previous years. Some of those programmes include Medicine, Journalism among others.
Earlier this year, Makerere University through their Vice Chancellor – Prof Barnabas Nawangwe revealed the institution’s move to slash undergraduate admissions, mostly in humanities courses.
He explained that the move was aimed at increasing research-based learning at the institution thereby enhancing graduate studies.
If Makerere prioritizes research, Prof Nawangwe said, they would then leave other universities to train diploma and bachelor degree students, for the courses that will have been slashed at the hill
At the time of filing this story, admission lists for diploma entry scheme and graduate studies have not yet been released.
Campus Bee will keep you updated on the appealing phase and release of other admission lists.
