This year’s Kyambogo Bazaar has started like a shock wave. With the most contemporary stage that has ever stood on KYU grounds and various exhibitors from all walks of business and entertainment, the Bazaar has failed to grab the attention of students.
For the past three days, most stalls close at 3pm when the event is expected to pick momentum. At night, Deejays spin and dance to their own mixes as the few students around can’t stand to twerk or wiggle in the Kyambogo mud.
Generally, the turn up has been cartoon sized and a heartbreaking one to exhibitors.
Inquiring from Heineken one of the official and main sponsors of this event; Lucy one of the sales girls said that the sales they have had up to today are so low. That compared to other bazaars they been to, Kyambogo students are the best at Window shopping.
Our drone bee swung around KYU till he stung;
Joshua Okoyoyi the Secretary campus affairs committee which is incharge of the Bazaar attributed the low turn up to the on going non-teaching staff strike at Kyambogo.
“The strike led to the postponement of the reporting dates for the new semester and for that, many students are still home. We expect the event to be boosted once students report back this Saturday,” Joshua added.
Though Correlating with the past Bazaars, it’s no surprise as Kyambogo students don’t always respond to the event. This year’s gig has been well spiced up to attract more students but KYU students are stone hearted to convince and have still not seen the good in it.
The lingering questions are:-
Could these chaps be broke?, misers?, could they be in a trend lag? could they be over christianising (noo even Christians go shopping and have fun) or are they trying to confirm all the Stereotypes ever made of KYU???
