The security detail of the Minister of Sports and Education who also doubles as the First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni left many people agape after they thoroughly dragged one of Makerere University’s reputable professors out of the way.
It is said that Prof Jacob Agea was moving around the stretch between the College of Social Sciences (CHUSS) and Makerere main building when he faced the wrath of the First Lady’s military men that wanted him to pave way for the Education and Sports Minister.
Eyewitnesses narrate that the professor yelled for help, and also dropped his bag in the process of being lifted by the soldiers. The bitter, embarrassed Professor declined to comment on the matter when approached by media people later after the incident. He instead referred them to the communications officer of Makerere University, saying they are barred from speaking to the press.
“We have a communication policy in this university and you know I am not supposed to speak to you about the incident. So kindly talk to the University PRO,” Agea explained.
Our well placed snoops went ahead to notify us that the first lady was leaving the university after opening the Makerere-Sweden Bilateral Research Programme annual planning meeting earlier on in the day.
For those who do not know him, well, Prof Agea is a professor of Applied Ethno-botany & Food Security in the Department of Extension and Innovation Studies, School of Agricultural Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
