The Makerere University Dean of students Mr Cyriaco Kabagambe has issued feeding guidelines to be followed by government sponsored students beginning with the next semester that kicks off in August. In a document released by Mr Kabagambe, government sponsored students will be paid their food allowances through their personal bank accounts at the beginning of the semester.
The document also indicates that first year government sponsored students will be given food in their respective Halls of residence only for the first week as they process their food allowances which will be deposited on their accounts later on.
Apparently, four food service providers will be stationed at four points of University Hall, Mary Stuart Hall, Africa Hall and Nsibirwa Hall. Makerere students will be able to buy various foods of their choice from the mentioned stations by paying cash to the service providers.
The Dean’s food guidelines have been released a few days after the Makerere University Guild President Were Salim, through his social media platforms, suggested that the University should either continue providing meals to students or give them a Shs10,000 daily food allowance. He also suggested that if the exiting service providers cannot take the Shs4,500 provided by the university, they should be chased and new ones allowed to take over .
