You have probably been hearing or reading social media posts about university not opening until end of elections which is February. The message circulating across social media platforms indicates that the Ministry of Education pushed the opening date as read below;
“MAKERERE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS GUILD
This Is To Inform The Entire Makerere University Fraternity That Due To General Elections The Ministry Of Education And The National Council For Higher Education Has Decided To Change The Official Reporting Date Of 30th January To A Date Which Will Be Announced In Few Days But Which Probably Will Be After Elections.May God Be With You All.”
Well this is to serve you with an assurance that the message circulating is false and you should merely treat it as hogwash. The official opening of all public universities is 30th of January 2015.
Talking to Campusbee, MUBS PRO, Simon Peter Odoki confirms that this is not true; a semester has 17 weeks which implies that the scheduled dates of opening and closure will not be distorted because of the elections.
Makerere University and Makerere University Business School are set to report on 30th January. Kyambogo University’s reporting date still hangs in balance as council awaits to take a decision on whether to grant a short holiday or not since students are doing exams.
