Four final-year students of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University, took part in a student’s challenge dubbed The Trail, by Vinci Construction and emerged the overall winners in East Africa, Anglo-Speaking Africa and Africa as a whole.
The Trail Challenge by VINCI Construction tasked its participants to imagine how companies working in the construction sector should make use of new technologies, and how can they develop and adapt to meet society’s needs and improve people’s quality of life.
The four students: Viola Kirenda, Yvonne Nalinnya, Justine Geraldine Nanfuka and Douglas Davis Kiggundu pitched an idea they called “Power Step” – a project that would use the mechanical energy from people’s movement in a building to generate electricity that can be used for various purposes including lighting and powering electrical devices.
On Friday 4th May 2018, the students received their tickets and Visas to attend the International Final of THE TRAIL by VINCI Construction which will take place on 17th and 18th May in Paris, France. The tickets were handed over to them by Mr. Deogratius Akol, the Human Resources Manager of Sogea Satom, who congratulated them upon emerging the best project for Africa and the overall winner for Africa.
