Last week, a number of students got their internship money that is meant to help them during their internship and field work placements that should have started yesterday, 1st June. Unfortunately, some students didn’t get their money and yet they are supposed to have started their internship.
Today, a number of students that had not received their internship money stormed the accounts (office 317) and cashier’s office demanding that they be given their money as soon as possible or else they would burn the university.
“These guys just want to eat our money yet we paid it. Some of us just hustle every day to pay fees but these guys don’t seem to respect our hustle” lamented Julius a student of Development Studies at Makerere.
The students went ahead to attack the gentleman who sits in the cashier’s office, Mr. Peter, claiming that he is not competent and that he is very proud. When Mr. Peter went out of his office, a number of police officers stormed the building upon which some students started shouting the very much recognized words, ‘wee wee’ together with abuses at the university.
“The guy that sits in that office is very incompetent and should be fired. He lied to us that he was going to the bank and he instead called the police, this is total incompetence.”
In his defence, Mr. Peter said, “why do I have to talk to you when I am guarded like Besigye?” He added that “you shall all be worked on but let’s respect each other”, he was able to calm the students who promised to strike if they are not worked on by Monday next week.
