Makerere University 74th graduation ceremony climaxed on Friday 2nd February, 2024 marking a week of ululations since day 1 on January 29, 2024.
Throughout the ceremony, a total of 12,913 degrees and diplomas were awarded. 132 PhDs, 1585 Master’s degree ,11,016 Bachelor’s degree, 156 postgraduate diplomas, 24 under graduate diplomas with 53% female and 47% male.
The last day of this year’s edition was dedicated to graduands from; College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
It is from this list that a roster of graduands arose and caught the attention of many. These include public figures, mainly from the political arena.
NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was in attendance to witness his brother – Kampala Central MP contestant, Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu graduate with a Master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies.
Makerere’s very own who doubles as Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Hon Doreen Nyanjura (Master of Gender Studies), Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit Col Edith Nakalema (Master of Security Strategy), UPDF deputy spokesperson Deo Akiiki (Master of Defence and Security Studies), Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango (Master of Security Strategy) headlined the day.
Other notable graduands included Henry Suubi, whose fairy tale has taken social media by storm and former Guild President Alionzi Lawrence Dangote, both graduating from CEDAT.
