As we count a few days to the long awaited Makerere University 70th graduation ceremony, the university’s management has announced that it will investigate circumstances surrounding the production of its graduation gowns from abroad yet it contracted a Ugandan firm.
The announcement has come following the contractor’s (Team Uniform Ltd) deliberate refusal to release all the agreed gowns ahead of the ceremony citing unpaid arrears from last year. Over 13,000 students are set for the graduation but we have learned that only 7000 gowns have arrived from China.
The panicking university administration last evening tweeted that it would launch investigations into the contract amid strike threats from graduands.
“Management has taken interest in the circumstances surrounding the gown production by the contractor and will investigate.” Makerere tweeted.
Ahead of the four-day graduation ceremony slated to start on Tuesday January 14th, the university management and students have been overwhelmed by pressure/tension since majority of this year’s graduands haven’t secured their graduation outfits.
We will keep you posted!
