Kirabo Marion, the Makerere Guild Gender Minister has come out to call for New Vision and XFM’s boycott following the company’s failure to investigate their employee Denzel who was accused of rape by several girls.
In a series of tweets, Kirabo’s complaints have attracted the attention of female activists as well as celebrities like Judith Heard. Kirabo has further accused New Vision of publishing pro-rape articles amid several complaints from girls who claim that Denzel sexually assaulted them.
“#BoycottRapeVision @newvisionwire for publishing pro-rape articles, @XfmUG for continuing to employ a Rapist, @DenzelUG and the entire Vision group whose CEO, @rkabushenga condones Rape.” One of Kirabo’s tweets reads.
According to Kirabo, media establishments like New Vision and XFM have become mediums through which the ‘Rape Culture’ is indoctrinated onto the masses with Robert Kabushenga as their ‘cult head’.
“Let’s begin with paralysing the medium through which rapists and Rape apologists communicate to their club of rapists #BoycottRapeVision #mybodymyconsent.” Kirabo tweeted.
Her back to back complaints have attracted socialite Judith Heard to comment that the rape culture has made it hard for the rich to be touched.
“Sad but it’s reality we have been raised to believe the rich and powerful can’t be touched by anyone and this is something that’s gotta change.” Heard tweeted.
Human rights organizations like the Uganda Women’s Network have also showed keen interest in the matter.
