Makerere University 89th Guild leaders, captained by the President Maseruka Robert, met with the First Lady Janet Museveni – the Minister of Education and Sports.
The former presented to the Minister a few pressing issues that required her utmost intervention.
“The students’ leadership, together with Council had an interaction with the Minister For Education,” Maseruka announced on X.
Top of the list was the need was the urgent need to address the increasing number of dropouts from the University due to the high costs of living and incapacity to pay for tuition.
This comes after the recent launch of “Save a Makererean campaign” spearheaded by the 89th Guild.
Maseruka and group also pleaded with the First lady to influence swift renovation and reopening of Lumumba Hall that was closed in 2021.
“I also presented the urgent need for government to push the University to expedite the renovation and reopening of Lumumba Hall. We must have education as a right,” he noted.

The First Lady acknowledged receipt of these grievances and the student leaders are hoping for a positive response sooner than later.
