Makerere University Law lecturer, Dr. Busingye Kabumba took to his personal Twitter account to rant and bombard MTN Uganda with a series of tweets after sent money to a wrong MTN mobile number last Saturday morning. Dr. Kabumba, after contacting MTN customer care informing them that he had erroneously sent money to a wrong number, the Law Don was informed by MTN to secure a court order if he wants the transaction reversed quickly.
According to Dr. Kabumba, the money was meant to help a young lady in Bukomansimbi who had lost a loved one.
Dr. Kabumba was told to wait for 72 hours, something that pushed him to wage war on the giant telecommunication company in a tweet war. Before kicking off the tweet war, Dr. Kabumba also engaged MTN through the online customer care service where he got a rude response from a one Ronald Muwaya, one of MTN’s staff members, “I cannot spend 10 minutes explaining the same thing,” Muwaya reportedly told Dr. Kabumba.
Here are a few of Dr. Kabumba’s tweets.
Wonders never cease. I sent mobile money to a wrong @mtnug number yesterday. Called MTN immediately and a ‘reversal’ was ‘initiated’. Was assured that the funds would be credited on my account ‘within 24 hours’ 1/3

Just called @mtnug again, and now being told that I should call the person who received the money in error and ‘reach a mutual agreement’ with them ??????The apparent alternative is to secure a ‘court order’!!! If this is not bufere, I don’t know what is! @UCC_Official 3/3

“I followed up the matter with a few hours later. The customer care agent this time stipulated 72 hours as the requisite waiting period. I called again, I told that I should call the person who received the money in error and ‘reach a mutual agreement’ with them the apparent alternative is to secure a ‘court order’’ he tweeted.
Indeed, this is serious abuse by @mtnug! What does @mtnug expect ‘omuntu wa wansi’ to do – secure a ‘court order’ to recover Ugx 5,000 sent to the boda or rolex guy? Kabumba wondered.
