Since the Non teaching staff of various public universities agreed to suspend the strike over salary enhancements for the next 3 months, Makerere university has decide to make changes in their semester 2016/17 for this academic year.
Speaking to media reporters at Makerere, The Chairperson of the University Council Eng Dr Charles Wana-Etyem, told reporters that they decided all students and freshers should report over the weekend so that there can be a normal start of business on Monday morning.
The end of semester date has also been pushed by a period of one week from December 10, and will now end on December 17 2016.
“The semester end has been extended from 10th December 2016 to 17th December to give students quality education as expected” said Ritah Namisango the University PR.
The strike which lasted for a period of about three weeks due to demand of salary enhancement by the non teaching staff of various public universities caused a bit of a set back for students who wanted to return for their studies.
The non teaching staff decided to suspend the strike after holding a meeting with President Museveni at statehouse who promised to make sure their salary demands are sorted out in the 3 months.
