Uganda Police has issued a report about the regrettable Makerere guild campaign scuffle between NUP and FDC in which one student lost his life.
According to Uganda Police, the deceased, a one Batungura Bewatte succumbed to hemorrhagic shock.
Police says the deceased was injured by a blow from a broken glass bottle which left him traumatized thus succumbing to hemorrhagic shock.
“The facts gathered indicate that the victim was fatally wounded by a blow from a broken glass bottle, which caused the sharp force injury, on the right side of the neck, after he was attacked near Nsibirwa Hall junction. The victim rushed to the washrooms at Nsibirwa Hall, where his colleagues picked and transported him to the University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The cause of death was hemorrhagic shock following sharp force trauma,” the report reads in part.
Police further pledged to investigate the different brigades within the halls of residences, pinning the cause of the chaos to them.
Batungura Bewatte, a second year Law student at UCU Kampala campus lost his life to a scuffle that ensued between NUP and FDC supporters.
The camps clashed on July 14th, 2022 during the last guild presidential rally of the 88th guild presidential elections.
Bewatte’s death resulted into suspension of the elections and the entire students’ leadership.
Makerere University council put in place a committee to investigate the election processes at the university before lifting the suspension.
