Makerere University Academic Registrar Mr. Alfred Masikye Namoah has released an updated and detailed programme for this year’s fresher’s orientation expected to run from 1st February to 6th February 2021.
According to a letter addressed to various college principals, this year’s orientation will be held online via zoom. Freshers are not required to go to campus. This is opposed to the usual norm of Makerere University holding its orientation ceremony at Freedom Square where all first year students congregate for tips about campus life, education, among others.
Masikye has tasked all colleges to get prepared to conduct fresher’s orientation and registration sessions on campus but non residential between Monday 1st Feb and Saturday 6th.
“Each college should plan to conduct fresher’s orientation and registration sessions on campus but non residential between 1st and 16th February, 2021 to handle among other things” the letter reads in part.
The letter further indicates that collages will also handle verification of freshers academic documents and enrollment into the AIMS system. Freshers will also be given students’ email (@mak emails) to enable them sign up for the university’s e-learning platform (MUELE).
Among other activities, freshers will be tipped about basic academic regulations as well as familiarizing them with the university environment.
