Makerere University Academic Registrar has set examination dates for final year students who reported on October 15th and continuing students who have been having online lectures since October 5th 2020.
Alfred Masikye, the Academic Registrar of the biggest public university in Uganda in a letter dated 26th October 2020 to all College Principals of Makerere University revealed that the examination of semester two of academic year 2019/2020 will commence on November 9th 2020 and end on December 21st 2020.
“The colleges are expected to conduct examinations for final year students in the first three weeks; from November 9th to November 29th 2020.
“All continuing students will undertake examinations over a four weeks period from 30th November to 21st December 2020,” the Academic Registrar’s statement read.
If the statement of the Academic Registrar is to go by, continuing students will be required to physically go to campus to sit for their end of semester examinations. This is because the college principals have been asked to submit numbers of students from every course. “Please note that the appropriate space will be reserved for Programmes/Courses with big numbers (over 400) to ensure the observance of COVID-19 SOPs,” Mr Masikye revealed.
However, Mr. Masikye offered a ray of hope for students who may not have been able to attend online lectures or better still sit for the end of semester exams. He revealed: “Students who may not have resumed studies under the emergency oDeL or may fail to do the examinations for one reason or another will not be penalised. They will be given opportunity when next offered.”
We shall keep you posted.
