Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which, Emmanuel Tegu, a third year veterinary student at Makerere University was beaten by Local Defense Unit (LDUs) after flouting the curfew rules- something that has led to his death.
The deceased passed on Saturday at Mulago Hospital where he was admitted following the incident but unfortunately died due to very serious injuries and wounds sustained.
According to reports, the incident happened near Lumumba Hall in Makerere University where the deceased was heavily beaten for moving past 7pm. Friends say Tegu was from praying. Police were called to the scene and drove him away to hospital.
Uganda Police Force, through a statement on their Facebook page said they have kicked off thorough investigation into the whole matter.
“Statements have been recorded from the police officers, who responded to the distress call, police established that the Victim was Emmanuel Tegu, a third year veterinary student at Makerere University. Unfortunately, the victim passed today at 3am before he could record a statement” reads the police statement, in part.
