#DrawaASmile charity organization run by Makerere third year psychology student, Sasha Ferguson has done it once again. This time not in the city slums but to Rural Nkumba Chezi Community that harbors 40 homeless kids, 30 youths, 30 grownups and a handful of young mothers. This Community falls under Nkumba Full Gospel Church.
“I got a call from Sharon Ninsiima (wife to senior pastor) and I immediately visited this place. I saw the condition and promised to come back with my team which is [Sunday] today. We are so happy to be here and we don’t have much but we are willing to go a mile and share the little we have,” said Ferguson in a speech during a church service held during the charity drive yesterday.
Ferguson pledged to take care of all the youths who stopped at S4 and S6 due to school fees constraints and to fight domestic violence against young mothers as it’s one of the reasons why kids are homeless. Campus Bee and an anonymous member also promised to take care of 1 and 5 kids respectively. The over 36 members from #DrawASmile who included Nbs TV’s Canary Mugume shared light social moments giving out snacks, food, sugar, clothes and scholastic materials to the community members.
All this was made possible by Campusbee.ug and My Testimony App that generously partnered with #DrawASmile.
“We are so happy to have you here. You won’t realize this but to me you’re an answered prayer. I always prayed about this and I am glad it was you, the youths. You have a lot you’ve sacrificed to be here. You’re young and need a lot of luxuries but you chose to donate the little you have. God Bless you” said Ninsiima in appreciation to the outreach team.
#DrawASmile is blessed to have a group of whites from UK who are expected to join in the Bigger outreach edition of the year late this December. The team also has plans of officially registering as an NGO to commence income generating projects besides personal contributions from the members.
