Makerere University student and actress Rukia Nalubega has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a TV Drama/Series at the Uganda Film Festival (UFF) 2026 Awards.
The 2026 edition of the Uganda Film Festival is scheduled to take place from August 21 to 28, with the festival celebrating Uganda’s film and television industry, talent and productions.
Nalubega, a Drama and Film student at Makerere University, earned her nomination for her performance as Zabuli in the television drama series Damalie.
Her nomination is a notable milestone for the young actress, whose journey into the creative industry took a different turn from her initial academic path.
Nalubega initially studied Accounting before pursuing her passion for storytelling and enrolling for a degree in Drama and Film at Makerere University.
She has since demonstrated her versatility by taking on a range of characters across Ugandan television productions.
Her acting credits include Zabuli in Damalie, Brenda “BB” Baraka in Prefects and Sylvia in Popi.
It is her portrayal of Zabuli in Damalie that has now earned her recognition among the contenders for the Best Supporting Actress in a TV Drama/Series award at UFF 2026.
The Uganda Film Festival, organised with the support of the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), is one of the platforms through which Uganda’s film industry showcases and recognises local talent.
The 2026 festival will run under the theme of celebrating Ugandan film and television talent, with activities taking place between August 21 and 28.
For Nalubega, the nomination comes while she continues to balance her studies at Makerere University with a growing acting career.
Her recognition also highlights the increasing contribution of university students to Uganda’s creative industry, with young filmmakers and actors increasingly taking centre stage in local productions.
The UFF 2026 awards will determine whether Nalubega takes home the Best Supporting Actress in a TV Drama/Series accolade for her performance in Damalie.
