While delivering his speech at the Tony Elumelu Founder’s Lecture Wednesday evening, the Makerere University Vice chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe showed his gratitude to Makerere students who chased away hooligans who were attempting to strike in the University premises.
Nawangwe said “hooligans” were preparing to strike over the suspension of Ainebyona who claimed to have bribed the Dean of Students, but Makerere students stood firm and said no more hooliganism at Makerere. “Yesterday, without me knowing, Makerere students chased away hooligans who wanted to come here and make noise for a student who did a criminal act and went on TV and admitted that he did that criminal act,” Prof Nawangwe said.
Prof Nawangwe went ahead to reveal that few Makerere students are insulting him in WhatsApp groups but the majority are saying no more hooliganism in Makerere, “I’m part of some students’ WhatsApp groups and many of them are insulting me, but I know them…the good thing is majority of them are saying no more hooliganism at Makerere University,” Prof Nawangwe confessed.
Prof Nawangwe later addressed a group of media personalities and vowed to deal with any hooliganism as long as he is still the Vice Chancellor of Makerere.
