A section of Makerere University have called for the resignation of their 89th guild president Maseruka Robert following series of ‘disappointments’ from him.
Students, through their body ‘the students revolutionary guard’, have written to the 89th guild government requesting for Maseruka’s resignation.
“In the quest to fight and defend the students interests and rights at the mighty hill, we hereby call for the 89th guild President to resign from his position because of diverting from serving the students interests who elected him into office,” the letter reads in part.
The students have stated eleven reasons to justify their request for the resignation of their guild president.
They say he has failed to execute his duties as guild president, failed to address the status quo of different halls, failed to harmonize the guild statute and constitution, and he has failed to secure sports equipment for students among other reasons.
The demand for Maseruka’s resignation comes days after his government failed to organise a Freshers’ ball for students.
According to Maseruka, the event failed due to management’s interference and change of guidelines for social events that had been given to him earlier. The guild president addressed students on Sunday and he said, ‘we are Frustrated’.
Maseruka’s government continues to face criticism with many students comparing it to that of his immediate predecessor, Alionzi Lawrence, whom they say, achieved so much in his 3 months tenure, yet Maseruka has nothing to show for the over 6 months he has been in office.
